WIRS is registrar-led and runs across the Wits academic radiology circuit — Charlotte Maxeke, Chris Hani Baragwanath and Helen Joseph — organised around service delivery, IR education and the community that carries both forward as members rotate through.

Explore interventional radiology.

Interventional radiology treats complex disease through pinhole incisions and image guidance. WIRS spans two connected areas of it.

Body intervention

Body intervention spans vascular and non-vascular image-guided care, including embolisation, oncologic intervention, hepatobiliary and organ-based procedures, and the management of complex vascular disease.

Neurointervention

WIRS highlights neurointervention exposure across the Wits academic teaching-hospital circuit — where registrars train in South Africa's public-sector setting — including the image-guided treatment of stroke, aneurysms and other neurovascular disease.

Research.

Supervised, registrar-led research from a case or an idea to a published output — for registrars who want to contribute to a project, or who have a case of their own.
